Description

August

“iRead Ebooks!”

Students will use myOn and Capstone to read electronic books. In our digital world, it is a must for students to be able to interact with text digitally.

September

“SHINE Bright, Readers!”

Students will read Sunshine State Young Reader titles (Gr. 3-5) and Sunshine State Young Reader, Jr. titles (PK-2).

October

“Don’t be SCARED of Reading!”

Students will read mysteries and scary stories.

November

“Nonfiction November”

The focus of Nonfiction November and Dewey Decimal December is to increase students’ exposure to informational text.

December

“Dewey Decimal December”

The focus of Nonfiction November and Dewey Decimal December is to increase students’ exposure to informational text.

January

“Keep Calm and Join a Book Club”

Students will connect around books and reading by participating in book clubs and reading partnerships.

February

3rd Annual Schoolwide Read-In

Students will complete a “bingo-style” board of read-aloud activities, as well as, host guest readers from the community.

March

March Madness Reading Competition

Classes will compete for the most Accelerated Reader points.

April

“BOOK!... Talks, Trailers, and Tastings”

In an effort to increase independent reading, students will listen to BookTalks, watch book trailers, and attend book tastings for a sneak peek into books. The goal is to pique student interest and curiosity of books they may not have self-selected.

May

“Get Caught Reading!”


Students will earn tickets for being caught reading on campus. Phone calls home will randomly be made to try and “catch” students reading outside of school, too!
